If comparing yourself with others is unwise, then where should your motivation come from? That was someone’s concern..
Here is what I believe:
It is true that many people find drive/zeal/energy/passion by turning everyone around them into competitors.
They measure their progress against others and push themselves to excel simply because someone else appears to be ahead. It may look like a smart way to stay relevant — and in some cases, it even works — but it’s not the way of the Kingdom.
You don’t need to beat yourself up by comparing your life to someone else’s. Considering that the world today feels like a pressure pot in every field, it’s easy to lose perspective. But Scripture reminds us clearly: “Those who compare themselves with themselves are not wise” (2 Corinthians 10:12).
Every now and then, we all feel the urge to measure our lives against others. But the truth is, comparison only makes sense when the playing field is level — when the opportunities, backgrounds, and variables are the same. Life, however, doesn’t work that way. The variables are never the same. That’s why comparison is not only futile but foolish.
The people you meet, the opportunities you’re given, your environment, upbringing, and culture — all these shape your path differently from anyone else’s. That’s why God calls us not to compare, but to rejoice with those who rejoice and mourn with those who mourn (Romans 12:15).
Don’t do things simply because others are doing them. Do them out of conviction — with a clear sense of purpose, knowing why you’re doing it, how you’re doing it, and what it means for you. Whether in ministry, business, or career, the wisdom of life is to stay grounded in purpose, not swayed by pressure.
So no matter how tempted you are to compare, resist it. Choose conviction over competition. Stay faithful to your unique journey. That’s how you remain aligned with God’s plan for your life.
More Blessings!
