THE GOSPEL: THE POWER THAT SAVES

By Shephard Victor

It is important for us to understand that the gospel is the only way anyone can be saved.
In Ephesians 1:13–16, the Apostle Paul emphasizes that the word of truth (gospel) is our salvation. This means that everyone who will eventually be saved will not be saved because they chose to be saved, or because they were motivated to be saved. Salvation does not come from human desire or self-improvement — it comes by the power of the gospel.
It is the hearing and believing of the gospel that brings salvation. So, if you think you were saved simply because you wanted to turn a new leaf, or because you were motivated by gains, or felt the need to “change your life,” then you must know that is not salvation.
You cannot be saved by therapy or counseling. As helpful as they are, they cannot replace the gospel. True transformation is not self-improvement; it is spiritual rebirth. Even if you are a Christian counselor or therapist, wisdom demands that the gospel remain the centerpiece of all that you do. For every lasting change in human life is a result of the gospel at work.
The gospel alone is the power of God unto salvation. There is no other name under heaven by which men can be saved. (Acts 4:12)
Any change that happens outside the gospel is temporary. It’s like patching an old garment with a new cloth — it won’t hold. You cannot pour new wine into old wineskins; the vessel must be made new. The same applies to the human heart — it must be born again.
Many people today come to church thinking that religion, morality, or philanthropy will save them. Some believe that giving offerings or living a good life guarantees salvation. But the truth is, without the gospel, there is no salvation.
And the gospel does not need to be packaged or improved; the gospel has enough power on its own to save and save to the uttermost.
We must stop deceiving ourselves. God chose to save humanity through only one means — the gospel of His Son, Jesus Christ.
That gospel is not good advice; it is good news. It is the power of God unto salvation for everyone who believes.
Do you believe the gospel?
More Blessings!
