Do not give your heart to another man. The Bible never commands us to give our hearts to another person, but only to God.
When we hand over our heart to someone, we risk turning them into an idol. God, not any human, is the only One worthy of holding our hearts. And we are safest when our hearts are anchored in Him and our love flows from that place to others.
When we give our hearts and devotion away, our emotions often follow blindly. In that vulnerable state, it’s easy to believe we no longer need boundaries or safeguards. But boundaries are not walls of selfishness—they’re lines of wisdom. They protect us from bitterness when disappointments come from man (cause surely, in coming, disappointments will come).
Maybe you’ve been led to believe that setting boundaries is selfish. That your job is to keep everybody happy, even if it means ignoring your own needs. Maybe you thought it was people’s responsibility to protect your heart, and that boundaries wouldn’t be necessary.
If you’ve gotten into the habit of silencing the voice of restraints in your heart, it can be hard to draw healthy lines when you stray or are about to. It might be too late soon as you realize that you’ve allowed someone to take advantage of your freeness.
Boundaries are not just biblical; they are essential. They mark the line where toxic love ends and true freedom begins. They help you close the door on bitterness so your soul can finally breathe and begin to heal. Forgiveness and freedom are not opposites—they walk hand in hand.
It is time to make those healthy changes, then forgive yourself and walk forward.
It is not “godly” to always agree to what others say. The scripture calls us to truth, not to people-pleasing. Saying no is also a spiritual principle. When we say yes while our heart screams no, we sow frustration, resentment, and confusion. God’s word teaches us to let our “yes” be yes, and our “no” be no. And we are called to love our neighbor as our selves, not to please them at the expense of our own soul.
“Boundaries” are good. And on you heart? They are really beautiful.
